Using Our Daily Planners

We use daily planners as a tool to help us manage our time and organize our committments and priorities.   Remember, you SHOULD be using the provided planner as follows:

1- TAKE IT with you to ALL of your classes
2- WRITE what you DID, LEARNED ABOUT, TALKED ABOUT, DUE DATES, etc
3- LOOK AT it often, both at SCHOOL and at HOME
4- SHOW Ms. Dreyer your planner for a TEST GRADE

Recently, we as a class have struggled with completing our planners.   Although it may be hard to get started, being able to plan and manage time and priorities is a VERY important skill to have for high school, college, work, and life.   We PRACTICE now, just like an artist, athlete, or musician, to fine tune our skills for the future.  I have written a sonnet (inspired by one of our 9th grade students' who was required to write a sonnet) about using your planner.  Enjoy :)

Dedication to my Planner
By Ms. Dreyer

Teacher says I have to use a planner
If not then I will surely feel her wrath
So what if I have practice or homework
Or to study or give my cat a bath

But planning helps me turn things in on time
And remember to study for a test
Forgetting to do homework is a crime
And failing grades make my parents feel stressed

The planner now is part of my routine
I check it every class period each day
At home I check before I watch the screen
And do my work before I go to play

Planners are sometimes hard to remember
But save you from burning to an ember

Homeroom

We are starting something new in the SPED department at RRHS called "Homeroom".

Students are assigned to a homeroom if they struggle with certain skills, such as writing down assignments, organizing their backpacks/notebooks, and turning in materials on time.

Ms. Dreyer's homeroom schedule is as follows:

Session 1:  Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00-8:25

Session 2: Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30-8:55

So how do you get assigned to homeroom?
Well, there are a few ways.  One way is for a teacher to recognize that the student needs some help in these areas.  Another is for the student to ask for assistance.  And finally, if a parent feels their child would benefit, they can request the student be assigned to homeroom.
If you would like to be assigned to a homeroom, please let me know.  If you are unable to make it during my scheduled times, there are also teachers who are hosting a homeroom during lunch and after school.
